Chugach Alaska Corp.

Chugach Alaska Corp. (CAC) was formed in 1972 as an ANCSA (Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act) Corporation. A nine-member board of directors, elected from more than 1,900 shareholders, directs CAC’s management team. The board, all of whom are Alaska Natives, selects the president and is assisted by an experienced and qualified managerial staff with responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of CAC and its subsidiaries and joint ventures. Today, CAC has over 2,000 shareholders. The corporate mission is a commitment to profitability, celebration of their heritage, and ownership of their lands.
The Chugach Alaska Corp. region includes the four communities of Cordova, Seward, Valdez, and Whittier, and the five Native villages of Port Graham, Chenega Bay, Eyak, Nanwalek (English Bay), and Tatitlek. Approximately 550,000 acres of the lands are subsurface estate from the region's Native village surface entitlements. It includes more than 5,000 miles of coastline, at the heart of which lies Prince William Sound.
The lands and waters are rich in timber, minerals and wildlife resources. Spectacular scenery and recreational activities are the focus of increasingly lucrative tourism opportunities for the corporation. The sound's majestic fiords, bays, and waterways are home to a diverse population of fish, marine mammals, and birds. The land's diversity ranges from glaciers and mountains to thriving forests of hemlock and spruce.
