The tanker escort requirement passes the U.S. House of Representatives! - The federal Coast Guard Authorization bill, H.R. 3619, has passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives. Check the tanker escort project page for news articles and a history of the issues surrounding dual escorts in the sound.
September Board Meeting - The final agenda and meeting materials for the council's September board meeting are available on our board meeting web page.
Student grants are now available - The council encourages youth and teachers (or sponsors) in the PWSRCAC region to become active stewards of their communities. Grant funds of up to $2,000 are now available to help support those projects or activities that best support the council’s mission and responsibilities.
Visit the council's youth involvement web page for more information.Escort System Update - On May 14, 2009, Senators Lisa Murkowski and Mark Begich introduced federal legislation to preserve the present system of dual tug escorts for all tankers carrying oil through Prince William Sound. The council is very gratified to see its top issue off to such an encouraging start in Washington, D.C. In March, both chambers of the Alaska Legislature unanimously passed House joint resolution no. 19, promoted by the council, calling for continuation of the dual escorts. At the January 2009 board meeting, the PWSRCAC Board of Directors approved a resolution supporting the continued practice of dual escort tugs for loaded oil tankers.

His resignation was accepted by the council board May 8 as it met in Valdez. Read the complete press release.
New Report Available - A new report, Prince William Sound Recovery Rate Analysis is now available to the public. This study weighs several spill response schemes against different environmental scenarios in order to determine estimated oil recovery rates.
This report can be found here or by clicking the report title above.Looking Back: Images of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in Kodiak - The Kodiak Maritime Museum is calling for fishermen, oil spill workers and ordinary people who experienced the 1989 spill on Kodiak and the Alaska Peninsula to contribute their photographs and video images to a March 2009 exhibit documenting the oil spill. The museum will digitize, print and exhibit the images in Kodiak and on the museum web site. Digitized images will be archived and a commemorative DVD will be produced.
