February 2, 2006
At approximately 5:25 am, large ice floes hit the 600-foot double-hull Tesoro oil tanker Seabulk Pride, which was moored and transferring gasoline and other product at the Nikiski Kenai Pipeline (KPL) Dock (in Cook Inlet). The tanker broke free from its mooring and ran aground about one-half mile north of the dock.
February 3
PWSRCAC staff observer Stan Jones reported from the Command Center in Nikiski that as of about 8:20am the tanker was pulled free and was afloat. The tanker sailed south under tug escort to Kachemak Bay for further inspection.
February 8
According to DEC,
a formal report of the dive survey was completed by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and supplied to the ship’s owner and the Coast Guard. Following that report, the Coast Guard certified that the vessel was safe to operate at sea. Seabulk Tankers, Inc. plans to transit the T/V Seabulk Pride to Puget Sound to offload its cargo in Anacortes, WA. Pressure testing of the valves and manifolds, as well as repairs, to the KPL Dock has been completed. The dock has reopened.
February 13
SERVS has confirmed that all response equipment that was deployed to assist with the Seabulk Pride grounding incident in Cook Inlet has been returned to Prince William Sound and is "response ready." Accordingly, the TAPS shippers are discontinuing the mitigation measures and are returning to normal operations.
