Mako Haggerty

Kenai Peninsula Borough


A 30-year lower peninsula resident, Mako is a commercial fisherman by trade, and worked on the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, both in Prince William Sound and along the outer coast of the Kenai Peninsula. Mako is the founder and owner of a water taxi service in Homer, providing recreational opportunities and transportation in and around Kachemak Bay. Mako represented District 9 as an elected member on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly from 2009 to 2015. Mako also sits on the Board of Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park. Mako is the father of two twin boys and is curious about all things related to the ocean environment.
