Final agenda for board meeting now online

The next meeting of the council’s board of directors will be taking place at the Valdez Convention and Civic Center on Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3.

Valdez, AlaskaThe tentative times for public sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The meeting is open to the public, except for executive sessions. Public comments are scheduled for Thursday starting at 8:55 a.m.

The council will be conducting regular business during the meeting including the election of officers, orientation of new volunteers and seating the established committees.

Additional topics on the agenda include:

  • Officials from Alyeska Pipeline Service Company and the City of Valdez will report on the status of a memorandum of understanding that would outline how the two entities would coordinate a response to a fire at the Valdez Marine Terminal.
  • An update from the citizens’ council on the renewal process for oil spill prevention and response plans (known as contingency plans) for the Valdez Marine Terminal.
  • A presentation by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation on how they assess the efficiency of skimmers used to pick up oil after a spill.
  • A presentation by Coastal and Ocean Resources on a new program that involves local citizens to monitor and document intertidal biota such as barnacles, mussels and rockweed.
  • Approval of two consultant reports that together deal with the uptake and toxicity of dispersed oil on zooplankton, herring, salmon and cod.

Council board meetings are routinely recorded, and may be disseminated to the public by the council or by the news media.
