PWSRCAC Scoping Comments on the Proposed 30-Year Renewal of the Trans Alaska Pipeline System Federal Right-of-Way

This document contains a cover letter and full comments by the Council to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in response to BLM’s public scoping on the proposed 30-year renewal of the federal right-of-way (ROW) for the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS).

The Council’s statutory authorization is limited to Valdez Marine Terminal and associated tankers. As such, these comments are focused on the terminal, which fills a key role in the system that moves American crude oil from the Arctic to refineries in Alaska and beyond. The Council’s interest is ensuring that TAPS is in the best position possible to operate safely into the future, with a focus on helping to protect Alaska, its residents,
economies, and the environment from another catastrophic accident and devastating oil spill.
